Introducing Tropes V8.1 beta - A major update of Tropes software:
- The graphs have been enhanced to be more readable and display more information.
- The graph of actors can now display two levels or all the relationships.
- When the display is focused on the top of the ontology of a Scenario, Tropes evaluates the relations of the graph by counting all the items in the selected branch.
- The layout logic of the area and actors graphs has been revised to spread out the display.
- The conversion of Microsoft PowerPoint and Open Office (Open Document) files is now performed automatically, if the corresponding filters are installed in the system. Installing Microsoft Filter Pack (32-bit) may be required.
- New scenarios and dictionaries accompany this update.
 
Tropes V8.1 is still a 32-bit application compatible with all usual versions of Windows (XP, Vista, 7). The software should also work (in degraded mode) with emulators on other systems (Linux, etc.).

Tropes V8 free software is loaded with a preversion of a new V8 English semantic network. The work on these dictionaries is in progress, neither complete nor always relevant. We need help to improve the classifications.

Little FAQ about the performances of Tropes Zoom Pro
 
Is the Zoom search engine limited?
For some users, yes, sure! There is a maximum of 4 millions documents per folder. For example, if you want to index the full English Wikipedia (including discussions), you have to split the content in several folders. Even if you can index all this content with a small netbook, the problem is time: Indexing the articles of Wikipedia can take more than 12 hours with a mainstream PC.
 
What about the 10,000 files limit in Tropes?
Knowing you can group together the results by meaning with Zoom, are you going to analyze more than 10,000 documents in a single run? Is it pertinent? Why should we care about this?

Do you have any recent benchmark data?
We recently tested the performances of Zoom on a $800 computer (DELL Precision, Core i5-750 [2.66GHz], 4 GB RAM), with a dedicated 7200rpm HDD for data, in DMZ (antivirus disabled). The average indexing throughput is between 0.5 and 2.5 MB per second (on a single thread, excluding multimedia content). There is no significant difference between Windows XP and Seven. With a netbook (Asus eeePC, Atom N270 [1.6GHz], 1 GB RAM, standard HDD) the throughput is four times slower.

What can you say about the current version?
We think 4 millions documents per folder are enough for most users and we have Overtext Index for very large contents.
Power-users can stop some running processes, use third party PDF converters, and add a fast hard drive to improve performance. Check also your configuration: some antivirus software may slow down your computer by a factor of 10. Avoid putting too many files at the same place: create subfolders (Windows can be slow when you have thousands of files in a single folder).

Our software works fine under Windows Seven (32bits)

All versions 7 of Tropes, Zoom and Overtext Index work perfectly under Windows Seven (32 bits). But you may have to run Windows Update, for the electronic key, just after installing the software. If you have any installation problem, contact our Technical Support.

Semantic-Knowledge announces Tropes Zoom V7.2

Introducing the new developments in this version:

1. Enhanced semantic ontologies (Scenarios) and dictionaries (more than 10,000 new entries added in the English and French lexicons and semantic networks since May 2009).
2. Full support of Microsoft Word 2007 DOCX file formats (Microsoft Word 2007 or Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Filter Pack 2007 (free) is required this functionality).
3. New conversion engine kernel with advanced error handling (conversion and integrity checking) for malformed or corrupted files. Browsing is a bit slower but you have now a diagnostic about your documents.
4. Enhanced compatibility with Windows Media Center, Vista (and Seven) on large screen displays.
   
5. New and improved interactive help system - V7.2 is more a self-study learning tool for semantics.
   
6. Many other modifications to make life easier for all our users.
   

A free upgrade to Tropes or Zoom V7.2 is available to all our customers who have purchased our software in the last year. Fair trade is always a standard practice!
